How I Went From a Broke College Student Living in a Small, Disgusting Apartment In Radford, VA to Living Life On My Own Terms By The Age Of 27

Growing up, I always had the entrepreneurial bug. I knew that I was going to own my own business one day, I just had no idea what it was going to be. During college I would sit in my apartment and between games of Madden® (I think my sophomore year of college I spent 10 hours a day playing Madden®, sad but true), I would try and think of "million dollar" business ideas.

The idea took a while to come. In the mean time I needed some money, so of course I had to work. One of those jobs was at K-Mart®. I was a stock boy and this was by far the worst job I've ever had (and I've had a lot of jobs). The management was terrible and they treated the employees like crap. I didn't stay there long. Next, I worked at Kohl's®. I actually liked that job. The management was great and the people I worked with were really friendly. Also, I mowed lawns, spread mulch on my Spring Breaks and even paved driveways (The paving driveways was actually only one driveway. My buddy and I had no idea what we were doing and we purchased the wrong sealer. We pretty much destroyed the guy's driveway. If I remember correctly, we never got paid and thus ended my paving career).

Anyway, the whole time that I was working my mind was still searching for my business idea. I started to go the library about once a week and check out all types of business related books. I checked out books on sales, marketing, franchises, starting a home based business and the stock market. I used to spend hours reading these books until my eyes felt like they were going to bleed.
